American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana)
The American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is a popular choice for home orchards due to its delicious fruit, attractive foliage, and adaptability to a wide range of climates. This variety produces large, orange-colored fruits that are sweet and astringent when ripe, making them ideal for pies, jams, and dried persimmons. Persimmons ripen on the tree - pick after the first frost! The tree itself is an ornamental addition to any landscape, with glossy, dark green leaves that turn a brilliant yellow to red in the fall. It is a great permaculture plant providing livestock feed, wildlife attraction, and valuable wood. Additionally, it is tolerant of black walnut juglones! We highly recommend this tree!
